Sponsoring Scenic City Summit

For the second year in a row, Simple Talk will sponsor Scenic City Summit in Chattanooga, TN, which will be held June 19-21.

What is awesome about this year’s Scenic City Summit is that is expanding and will pull from several of the area’s well-established communities, including DevOpsDays Chattanooga, Open Source & Drupal Camp, SQL Saturday, PowerShell + SQL on the River, Gig City Data Jam, DC423, NervesConf, and GigCityElixir.

I have helped over the years with the SQL Saturday community having lived in this area for about 10 years now. Of course, just like a lot of communities, we were hit pretty hard in the late 2010s (for various, obvious reasons), and this is a great way to get some form of data conference back in our area.

Why here?

Other than the obvious geographic location, this is one of our semi-rare opportunities to sponsor an event not specifically targeting database technology this year. It is an interesting time of year because if you are big in the database (primarily SQL Server) community, those dates probably feel familiar for a few reasons. That is because SQL Bits, this year in London, is at the same time. And there is another data-oriented conference in Seattle the next week, too (Datacon)! Several of our Simple Talk writers, podcast guests, and my fellow Redgaters will be at all three of these events!

Other than the obvious favorable geographic location for me as editor, this is one of our semi-rare opportunities to sponsor an event not specifically about database technology this year. It is an interesting time of year because if you are big in the database (primarily SQL Server) community, those dates probably feel familiar for a few reasons. That is because SQL Bits, this year in London, is at the same time. And there is another data-oriented conference in Seattle the next week, too (Datacon)! In terms of topics at Scenic City Summit, if you are a regular reader of Simple Talk articles, you probably know that we are not all database-focused. Still, we have articles about pretty much everything you can think of in technology. I try to get out to an event or two each year that are wider than just relational databases. This gets tricky around SQL Server and PostgreSQL events and trying to get to Oracle events, too (not yet successful there, for scheduling reasons).

What is Simple Talk doing at the conference?

During the event, Simple Talk will sponsor the video recordings because honestly, this is the most Simple Talk thing I have sponsored yet. The fact that the session videos will be available for people to watch sometime after the event is awesome, and it is slightly more awesome since they will have something like “sponsored by Redgate Simple Talk” on them!

I will also be speaking at the event, giving my Relational Database Design Fundamentals session. It is always enjoyable to give that session because I know it so well, and there seem to be many people who need a reminder that database design is not nearly as hard as it should be.

I will have a table and may have some form of swag to give out, so stop by and say “hello!”

See you there?

You have many choices about what conference to attend that week, and unless you are Ben Miller (who is speaking at the SCS event and Datacon!), you can probably only choose one. We would love to see you.
